Jade Ocean Condo Construction Begins with Impressive “Mat Pour”
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FL—October 6, 2006—The “mat pour” for Jade Ocean, a 51 story, 256-unit luxury oceanfront condominium being built at 17121 Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach by Fortune International, took place on Saturday, September 30th.The pour started at 2:30 am and wasn’t completed until noon on Saturday. To the layman, a mat pour is when the concrete foundation is poured—the first step in building a high-rise. Sunny Isles police helped direct the traffic flow during the pour. If you have never seen a mat pour before, it is a sight to behold.“Some of the numbers associated with this pour are mind-boggling,” says David Alexander, the General Superintendent at Coscan Construction, the General Contractor that is under contract to build Jade Ocean:
The mat is approximately 140 feet long, 60 feet wide and 9 feet deep—that is 3,000 cubic yards of concrete--enough concrete to cover three football fields.
70 trucks dumping more than 300 truckloads of cement were involved. One truck dumped its load and then went to one of three cement plants in Dade and Broward Counties to fill up with concrete again, returned to the site, dumped the load, returned to the cement plant… and continued this concrete cycle of loading and dumping until the job was completed.
It took about 9 hours to complete the task which began at 2:30 am.
Hundreds of workers were involved in the pour.
